How would Lamarck and Darwin have explained the large eyes of an owl?

Lamarck would have said that because owls hunt at night, their eyes grew larger with use. Thus, the trait was passed along.

Darwin would have said that the ability to see better at night was an advantage and those who could see better at night were able to survive and reproduce, thus passing the trait along and encouraging adaption and evolution.
