The building of the atomic bomb - what is the most important question to ask of Chapter 12?

In my opinion, the most important question that I would ask is why the U.S. research program was suddenly approved because Lawrence proposes to use plutonium to make a bomb. Nuclear studies and research boasted numerous advances in a number of different areas.... bombs only have one purpose.
