the answer to what is a blind spot is that behind the eyeball there is retina on which the the image forms. the image formed is sent by the fibres called rods and cones through the optic nerve to the brain. there is a portion of the retina which enters into the optic nerve. this portion does not consist of any rods or cones. so images falling in this portion cannot be seen. this is called the blind spot.
