Trying to tell the difference between Greek and Roman gods can be unnerving. For example, many of the gods overlap,but have just undergone a name change. For example, the Greek god of war is Aries, while in the Roman camp he is named Mars. Aries is feared by the Greeks, but Mars is beloved by the Romans (he's more into marital fertility). The Romans also depart from the Greeks in that they name some of their deities after objects rather than giving them human personality traits. The Romans believed in a hearty afterlife, while the Greeks more or less believed in the importance of living in the now. In Greek mythology humans play significant roles, while in Roman mythology they are inconsequential.
