Nature is a prevalent symbol in Thunder Rolling in the Mountains, as it represents the worldview of the Ne-mee-poo people: their society is very much reliant on the natural environment in which they live. Sound of Running Feet is particularly vocal in her appreciation for nature, which is a source of refuge to her and relief to her people after each day of difficult travelling. Nature's abundance is the ultimate provider of food and material for the Ne-mee-poo.
