x + 2y = 14

x + 2y -2y= 14-2y

x=14-2y

2x + 2y = 22

2(14-2y) + 2y = 22

2(14) (2)(-2y) + 2y = 22

28-4y + 2y = 22

28-2y= 22

28-2y-28= 22-28

-2y=-6

-2y/-2=-6/-2

y=3

x=14-2y

x=14-2(3)

x=14-6

x=8
