x+y=12

x-x+y=12-x

y=12-x

11x + 2y = 96

11x + 2(12-x) = 96

11x + 2(12) (2)(-x) = 96

11x + 24 -2x = 96

9x + 24= 96

9x + 24-24= 96-24

9x=72

9x/9=72/9

x=8

y=12-x

y=12-8=4
