x + 2y = 19

x + 2y-2y = 19-2y

x= 19-2y

x - 2y = - 9

19-2y - 2y = - 9

19-4y=-9

19-4y+19=-9+19

-4y=10

-4y/-4=10/-4

y=-10/4=-5/2=-2.5

x= 19-2y

x= 19-2(-2.5)

x=19+5=24
