Dan had 22 peaches and 11 pears left at his roadside fruit stand. He went to the orchard and picked more peaches to stock up the stand. There are now 61 peaches at the stand, how many did he pick ?

22=number of peaches to begin

x=number of peaches added

61=total number of peacehs

22+x=61

22+x-22=61-22

x=61-22

x=39
