What were some of Varina Howell Davis' accomplishments?

Mrs. Davis successfully lobbied for her husband's release from prison. She also donated their family home to the state of Georgia to be used as a Conferedate soldier's home. Mrs. Davis then moved to New York where she supported herself by writing magazine articles for vaious periodicals.
