The most important mathematical advancement the Muslims made to math was in the area of algebra. Al-Khwarizmi and Omar Khayyam helped develop algebra into a separate field of mathematics. The name "algebra", in fact, originates from the Arabic "al-jabr", meaning "reunion of broken parts."
