Off all the scientific achievements and Enlightment scientists, which contributed most to the development of Science as a modern discipline as we know it?

In my opinion, one cannot limit this answer to one man. Isaac Newton, Daniel Fahrenheit, Benjamin Franklin and Alessandro Volt all made siginificant contributions to science during this period.
