From what I can tell, Herman Husband's protests were disregarded because they were contradictory to his actions. I wouldn't say his protest against unjust taxes was wrong, but his motivations were seen as individualistic. The man held grants for over 8,000 acres of land, and yet he questioned the "benefits" received by government officials.
Also, the Regulators were patterned after the Sons of Liberty, but as far as Husband was concerned, there was one major difference, and that was the use of violence. As a Quaker, Husband believed in peaceful protest.... the Sons of Liberty were willing to take further steps.
