Whether or not the Counter-Reformation served its purpose is up for debate, as its purpose was to re-claim “lost souls” from the Protestants. It did, however, implement clear guidelines in order to clarify doctrine, set up rules, control the previous susperstitions that existed within the church, promote charity, and place greater importance on communion. In addition, it led to the construction of new churches, granted greater power to the popes, and showed that the church was willing to reform.
