Why is there no information about Thomas Newcomen? Such as his family and education?

Hi I have a school project, about Thomas Newcomen. I was wondering if you had any information about his family or education, just something other than he made the steam engine. Thank you!!!

Sadly, there is very little written information about Thomas Newcomen's early life, as recordkeeping was not so good in those days. Your best source is

L. T. C. Rolt and J. S. Allen, The Steam Engine of Thomas Newcomen (Landmark Publishing, Ashbourne 1997).

This is the definitive biography. John Allen and I and others worked on constructing the replica engine at the Black Country Museum in Dudley
