EIGHTH AMENDMENT - Under what conditions can the accused be denied the opportunity to make bail?

If the accused has committed a severe crime or is seen as a threat to society, bail will automatically be denied. Prior offenses are also a reason for denial. Bail can also be withheld in felony offenses when the facts show that the suspect has threatened another with great bodily harm, and that there is a substantial risk, that the accused would carry out the threat if released.
