The Idler is another archetypal character for Hill, a character which Hill admits he resembles closely. The Idler is known to put off chores, equipment preparation, or pursuing his prey, because he prefers to daydream, think, or simply get lost in the atmosphere of the wilderness. This "lost" time is for Hill sometimes more valuable than the time spent doing things, because the mind is free to wander, become youthful, and think upon the mysteries of the universe.
