Hector Medina was a cop for many years. However, when Medina killed a suspect, he was investigated by the department on accusations that he killed the man without cause and planted a weapon on him. Medina survived the first investigation, but was investigated a second time when Rusty Ingraham told the DA that everyone knew Medina murdered the suspect on purpose and planted the gun. This second investigation was also dropped, but Medina's colleagues no longer trusted him and he ended up leaving the police department. Medina's marriage failed and he was left to raise his mentally disabled daughter on his own on a private security guard's salary.
