When Sonny gets stuck in a snowstorm near the top of Coalwood mountain, a woman rescues him. Sonny is numb with cold and she insists he come into her little house and warm up. She has him remove his wet clothing, so it can dry out. She asks him about his father, Homer Sr., once Sonny tells her whose son he is. She says she knows his dad, that they grew up together in Gary Holler. She makes him french toast and tells him stories about how his father took care of everyone around him, that when someone had a need his father took care of it. Sonny makes it back home and later tells his father about her helping him.
