Eugene Daurat is the Durbannes' cousin. He forced himself on Suzette, and fathered two children by her. Daurat makes special note that he'd always intended to do something for his children but he'd never gotten around to freeing them. He even lived with a freed black woman awhile and gave her property...... it is believed that he would have married her if it hadn't been against the law.
