Cor Takes was a member of the Resistance during the war. Anton met Cor in 1966, at the funeral of a poet, who was also involved in the Resistance. During their initial meeting, Anton realizes that Takes killed Fake Ploeg, a murder he committed because of Ploeg's cruelty toward Resistance hostages. One of these hostages was Takes's younger brother.
