Who is Charlotte Hussey from Ahab's Wife, or, the Star-gazer: A Novel and what is their importance?

Charlotte Hussey is Kit's former girlfriend. She marries Mr. Hussey after Kit is presumed dead at sea. Charlotte helps her husband run the Try Pots Tavern. When Charlotte later receives a letter from Kit Sparrow, she disappears from Nantucket.
