Chandra Lal appears in the story, Giulia Lazzari. He is a dangerous conspirator against the Allied forces, and although he has a wife and children in India, he has fallen in love with dancer, Giulia Lazzari. Ashenden and other employees of the Intelligence Department attempt to convince Giulia to lure Chandra across the French border where they can arrest him, and though she does lure Chandra to France, he has brought a dose of poison with him. When he realizes he is trapped by British forces, Chandra takes his life.
