Who is Carl Taft from Taft and what is their importance?

Carl Taft is Fay's younger brother. Before their father's death, He was a championship wrestler. At the start of the novel, the Tafts have just moved to Memphis from Coalfield. Sadly, Carl is unable to either hold down a job or finish school. Instead, he becomes an addict, dealer, and thief.
