Who is Amanda Reid from --and Ladies of the Club and what is their importance?

After graduating from Oberlin University, Amanda Reid returned to work in her hometown as a teacher. She is one of the founding members of the club. Amanda sees herself as "better" than her peers, alienating the other club members. She dies alone.
