What was the most difficult decision that Tom Sawyer had to make, and why?

I'm really confused about this one because, I'm pretty sure he didnt have a lot of decision making to do, or I'm just wrong

Tom had to make a lot of quick decisions when he was lost in the caves. Tom used kite string to mark their path and recognized light through a crack in rock. He made the decision to dig into light. This turned out to be their way out of the cave.
