What is the plot in Chapter 1 in Frangipani House?

In Chapter One, we learn that Frangipani House is a home for the elderly, and that it is viewed as an excellent home with a good reputation. We also learn that Mama King's daughter has secured a place for her mother at Frangipani House for four-hundred dollars per month. Mama is impressed by the home when she first arrives, but she quickly becomes bored.
