Wee, sleeket, cowran, tim'rous beastie, (Small, sleek, cowering, timid mouse)
O, what a panic's in thy breastie! (panicking inside)
Thou need na start awa sae hasty, (You do not need to run away)
Wi' bickerin brattle! (with angry chattering)
I wad be laith to rin an' chase thee (I would be loathe to chase you)
Wi' murd'ring pattle! (with a murdering paddle)
