What is a recommended fantasy and science fiction book for 6th graders?

I am looking for suggestions of fantasy/science fiction books for my daughter, currently in 6th grade.

I would choose The Narnia Chronicles, as it would be easily understood by all reading levels and is great for novel based discussions.
