What changes the way the narrator perceives the war in the short story, Tyres?

The narrator tries to ignore the war for as along as possible. However, once he sees three bodies on the municipal table he is forced to face the upheaval caused by the ongoing global conflict and thus to acknowledge its impact on his own insular reality.
