This story tells the story of three men: Dr. Ferguson, Dick Kennedy, and their servant, named Joe. They set out to explore Africa in a balloon. They encounter a number of adventures near the Nile River. Like many of Verne's novels, lucky breaks happen a lot. For example, just when they are about to end their voyage tragically, a large gust of wind blows them clear, saving the day. Unlike Journey to the Center of the Earth and other Verne novels, this is not as much science fiction as just 'science' wrapped in a fictional story.
