One major theme in Wiwa's, Home Sweet Home, is the oppression of women. One example of this can be found in the way the narrator's friend was driven from her home for having twins. This might also support the theme of superstition.

Another theme is that of pride.... the desire of the people for the transformation of their town, all while they fight against it to hold onto their traditions. This example supports the negative aspects of colonialism.
