One of the key factors to improving your reading is to just do it. However, having said that, WHAT you use, the sorts of materials used, should be simply stated and interesting. Start with simple chapter books about non-fiction topics (anything you are interested in...sports, animals, etc..). Graphic novels are also very good because the pictures can often give you context clues so you can figure out words that you don't know.
