Explain what Washington means when he says the following about the military establishment: "avoid the necessity of those overgrown military establishments, which, under any form of government, are inauspicious to liberty, and which are to be regarded as particularly hostile to Republican Liberty." In context, Washington is issuing a warning to the American people. He was well aware that tyrannical governments made use of the military to attain and remain in power. The Revolutionary War, in which, Washinton played an integral role, was a war against tryanny...subserviency to England, who ruled the colonies and refused them representation in Parliament. Washington urges the American people to play a role in the government and support the federal government in order to avoid this type of rule.
