Character sketch of Ausable?

Ausable is the main character in the book, The Midnight Visitor. He is described as a "heavy" man with a New England accent, who works as a secret agent. Ausable has been living in France for twenty years, but he is an American. He has a rudimentary knowledge of the German and French languages.
