gene begins to see finny as some kid of "half-god" to be worshipped. why does this happen?

Gene envies Finny's ability to do everything well... to Gene, Finny is perfect. He's athletic, charismatic, intelligent, and most importantly... confident. Because of this, Gene sees him as god-like, worthy of worship, which is ironic when you consider that Gene's adoration if born in hatred.
