How does Lorde make it easier (and perhaps less comfortable) for people not only to see differences but to see differently?

I suppose Lorde is able to do this through her protagonist Audre. Audre is a lesbian and later in life becomes a major lesbian contributor to the feminist movement. She not only gives the reader understanding into the world of the LGBT community she also gives context into what it is like to be a black lesbian. People see the theme of femininity in different ways.
