How has Ann survived since leaving the cave? (End of book, chapter 24-26)

Ann has managed to survive quite well, but while she was recovering from her gunshot wound she realizes that she needs to find others who may be out there. She devises a plan to get Loomis's suit so that she can survive the dead zones. She systematically begins to gather items that she will need on her trip.
