Montgomery, Alabama is Zelda's hometown, which comes to symbolize her past and the different paths in life she could have taken. For Zelda, Montgomery is a momentous place because it is where she met and fell in love with Scott. When she returns to Montgomery near the end of her life, Zelda loves the town for the nostalgia it holds. When she considers how her life could have been different if she never accepted Scott’s marriage proposal in Montgomery all those years ago, she realizes she is happy with the life she has lived.
