Ysrael's operation symbolizes hope. Ysrael says that American doctors have agreed to operate on him in order to reconstruct his face. Rafa attempts to dash these hopes by saying that such a thing will never happen. This statement from Rafa may reflect Rafa's lack of hope for his own life and circumstances.
