Will, Jack’s older brother, served in Iraq a number of years before the novel, earning the Silver Star for his actions in saving the lives of his men. He carries a feeling of guilt with him that he couldn’t save everyone, and that their deaths were due to his poor strategy. Will is shown to be a voice of reason and a tough but fair confidant for Jack, who calls him frequently for advice.
