Jack's copy of Seven Pillars of Wisdom represents the intricacies of desert life as well as secrecy. As the hiding place for all of Jack's ill-gotten documents, the book serves as a repository for the hidden truths surrounding Ashuriyah. it is also representative of the complex nature of a foreigner living in the desert, as the book itself is an account of a British soldier living among Arabs who are engaged in a conflict with one another.
