What do the towns in the stories have in common in the collection, Young Skins?

Each of the stories takes place in a small Irish town. The narration never states a town name, and so it is possible that all of the stories take place in the same town. Even if they take place in different towns, the settings are very similar. The stories take place in towns with small populations. The towns have rural/suburban areas surrounding a very small urban center. Among the characters, there is often a feeling of loneliness and restlessness in such a setting.
