Monsieur T. is a family friend of the narrator, and he also happens to be friends with many of the girls' fathers. The narrator decides to befriend Monsieur T. even more intimately after he realizes that Monsieur T. might be his way of connecting with the girls. Monsieur T. is privately critical of the girls' manners, noting how rude and ill-behaved they are. He is, however, impressed by their fathers, and remains respectful and admiring toward them in each of their encounters.
