The ladybug story is a children’s book that Hélène often read to Melvil. Not wanting to scare him, she always skipped the middle section when the main character became evil and terrorized her friends and neighbors. Leiris does the same after telling Melvil that his mother has died, but notes that he will not always be able to avoid tragedy and sadness.
