Why does Grace first meet Malaga in the novel, You Should Have Known?

It was in Sally Morrison-Golden’s townhouse that Grace first met Malaga. She did not previously know who Malaga was. It is during the meeting at Sally’s house that Malaga points out Elena’s long eyelashes, similar to Henry’s long eyelashes. Malaga seems to be trying to tell Grace that the two children are related.
