Glass is symbolic of vulnerability. This symbolism is present both in the transparent nature of glass — such as the glass walls that Feyi encounters in Alim’s house, which do not hide or obscure the actions of the inhabitants inside — and in the sharpness of broken glass. The intact glass of the house reminds Feyi that she is vulnerable to all kinds of dangers, while the broken glass that appears in her dreams about the accident that killed Jonah — “Jonah’s bleeding hands, limp against the broken glass” (101) — acts as a reminder of how she has been hurt in the past.
