Sphinx is a piece of Charlotte’s cherished rock collection that represents her childhood. Before Middle School, both Charlotte and Bridget saw Sphinx as something to wish on. It was cherished by both of them. Once they reach Middle School, however, Charlotte’s desperation to get Bridget’s acceptance and Bridget’s own lies causes Charlotte to throw Sphinx out the window. In that moment, she loses her old self. When Magda gives it back, Charlotte accepts the girl that she is rather than the one she thinks others want her to be.
