Diane is the author's wife. She is a Hidatsa/Ho-Chunk/Potawatomi Indian and daughter of a Bureau of Indian Affairs administrator. She lived on five different reservations before her high school and college years spent in Riverside, California. Described as being exceedingly nice, Alexie's mother once told him that "she seems tough enough to deal with you" (440). Diane is also the mother of two sons with the author currently residing in Seattle.
