The memoir is written in first person and all memories (both true and fictitious) are crafted from the author’s point of view. Even the recollections in which the author was not personally present are constructed in a way that reflects how he believes they would have occurred, and dialogue is included as if he in fact had been there. As the memoir centers on a highly intimate topic, the singular point of view reflects the author’s individual battle to come to terms with the trauma of his past.
